Last year saw All-Time Highs for Bitcoin, and with each cycle comes more experience. The hype inevitably leads to calls for $1M per coin. While this was a “buy” signal for many, it was a “sell” opportunity for me to shave a little off and bring in some fiat stability.

I know what you’re thinking - my long-term conviction is still there. But having been stung by buying high in previous cycles, I sensed a moment to sell.

Now, with that comes a tax liability.

As I file my taxes this week, I’m reminded that being Sovereign isn't just about the "wins"; it’s about how clearly you handle the aftermath. In the Bitcoin world, we spend so much time learning how to "HODL" that we rarely practice the vocabulary of a strategic exit.

To be a professional builder, you must be able to explain your financial moves without sounding like you’ve lost faith in the protocol.

3 Bitcoin Buzzwords

  1. Realized Gains

  • Meaning: Profit that is locked in by selling an asset. Until you sell, your gains are only "on paper" (unrealized).

  • Example: "By selling at the ATH, I turned my paper wealth into realized gains to cover my living expenses."

  1. Tax Liability

  • Meaning: The total amount of tax you owe to the government after a profitable event.

  • Example: "Taking profits is great, but you have to calculate your tax liability before you spend the cash."

  1. Exit Strategy

  • Meaning: A pre-planned map for when and why you will sell an asset.

  • Example: "I didn't panic-sell; I followed a disciplined exit strategy to de-risk my portfolio."

Simple Explanations

In casual conversation, people say "I cashed out." In professional global discussions, that can sound amateur.

Instead, use terms like "De-risking" or "Rebalancing." It shows that you are in control of your capital. You aren't leaving Bitcoin; you are managing your Liquidity.

Small Speaking Exercise

Record a 30-second voice note (or just say it out loud) answering this question: "Why did you decide to sell some Bitcoin last year? or “Why would you never sell"?

Apply the 1-2-3 Signal Rule:

  1. Start with the Answer: "I sold to provide fiat stability and manage my tax position."

  2. No 'Uhms': If you need to think, use 2 seconds of silence.

  3. Short & Direct: Keep it to exactly 3 sentences.
